In Ethiopia, it is a step towards justice demanded by the people of Ogaden, the Somali region. Their former president, Abdi Iley, was indicted on Friday 25 January alongside 45 other former regional leaders. The Attorney General's office accuses them of attempting to launch a civil war last August to remain in power while opposition and civil society movements were pushing them to resign. 58 people had died, some of them decapitated or burned alive. These charges are timely for the transitional administration of the Somali region. Its president accuses the supporters of the old regime of wanting to push him out.

On the one hand, there is Mustafa Mohamed Omar, president for six months of Somali regional state. On the other, Ahmed Shide, the current federal finance minister and party chairman who has been running the region for 25 years. Ahmed Shide is also a former close friend of the former Ogaden strongman Abdi Iley.

According to relatives of the current president, Mustafa, his rival would have maneuvered to remove him. It ended on Saturday with tight hands around Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. They will continue to have to work together.

But the federal finance minister could find himself isolated in his region.
According to a source close to the regional executive, some members of the central committee of the Somali party would indeed be targeted by the federal inquiry into violence last August. They are former relatives of Abdi Iley and his repressive regime repeatedly denounced by human rights organizations. This could do the business of the reforming administration.

One of his most complicated tasks is indeed to " clean " the party and institutions of " anti-reform " elements, according to the official term.
