"I am sorry, Reiss," close to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, 90, published a new picture of him following rumors of his deteriorating health.

"President Mubarak is fine and there is no truth to the news about his health deterioration or his death," the paper said, adding that Mubarak "is very saddened by the decision to imprison his children."

She added that the deposed president stressed "respect for the Egyptian judiciary ... confident in the rule of God and people and history."

Media reported that social networking activists had reported Mubarak's death, and had received more than 3,000 tweets.

The ousted president was last seen in late August, showing signs of aging and aging.

Mubarak celebrated his 90th birthday on May 4, 1928, and stepped down in February 2011 following the January revolution.
