What can we expect from King Charles III, who has just succeeded his mother, Elizabeth II?

It is true that for some, the monarchy appears as an anachronism in 2022, useful, of course, to sell a few kitsch mugs but without impact on society.

Well, think again.

If Prince Charles made the headlines above all for his divorce from Lady Diana and his extra-marital affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, today his wife and queen consort, his more discreet action for the common good is quantified and imposed in the laws.

Let's start with his land and his passion for organic farming.

As early as 1985, long before it became a selling point, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II embarked on a more ecological approach to working the land, agricultural production and livestock breeding.

He used his estate at Highgrove, Gloucestershire, as a laboratory.

In 1992, he launched his own brand, Duchy Originals, which works with local and organic farmers.

Results: jobs created and sustained and millions of pounds of profit that are reinjected into its charities, such as the Prince's Foundation, dedicated to ecology and sustainability.

French cheese

Prince Charles also defended French raw milk cheese.

In 1992, the new sovereign of Great Britain was strongly opposed to a harmonization of bacteriological rules in the European Union, which would sign the end of this French specificity recognized throughout the world.

And again in 2015, during the climate conference in Paris, he made an ode, in French, to cheese.

“What will happen to Brie de Meaux, Crottin de Chavignol or Bleu d'Auvergne?

he exclaimed.

“In a future society without germs, what hope is there for the timeless Fourme d'Ambert, the Gruyère de Comté or the very fragrant Pont L'Evêque?

»

An activism against pasteurization that has borne fruit, since our cheese platters are always well stocked, just like those at Buckingham Palace.

One of the conditions of employment for its chefs was to know how to cook French.

We can therefore expect a King Charles III committed to the ecological cause (he had notably supported Greta Thunberg) that he does not oppose to the land and to ancient know-how, quite the contrary.

A modernization respectful of tradition, and a sovereign who will not hesitate to step up to the plate, even if it means offending some sensitive souls, this is perhaps what awaits the British people, for whom the winter promises to be harsh elsewhere.
