Threatens bones with osteoporosis ... A study warns of vitamin B12 deficiency

A scientific study warned that vitamin B12 deficiency may cause a range of human health problems, including osteoporosis.

According to the "Express" newspaper, vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that helps in strengthening the body by keeping blood cells and nerves in a healthy state and helps in the formation of DNA in all cells.

Evidence shows an association between low levels of B12 and an increased risk of osteoporosis.

The study researchers attribute this link to the role vitamin B12 may play in bone formation.

The study found that men with low levels of vitamin B12 had significantly lower bone mineral density (BMD) in the hip area, and women in the spine, compared to those with higher levels of the vitamin.

Other symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency include "a pale yellow color on your skin, sore and red tongue, mouth ulcers, tingling sensations, changes in the way you walk and move, blurred vision, irritability, and depression."

Vitamin B12 is found naturally in a variety of animal foods and is added to some fortified foods.

Good sources of vitamin B12 include "meat, salmon, cod, milk and other dairy products, and eggs."
