It will be the Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård who receives the Gothenburg Film Festival's Nordic Honorary Award Nordic Honorary Dragon Award - an award that is awarded to an inspiring Nordic actor in the film industry whose work deserves special attention.

In the past, stars such as Liv Ullman, Susanne Bier, Alicia Vikander and Mads Mikkelsen have received the award.

Long career behind him

Stellan Skarsgård managed to make a name already as a young man when he starred in the television series Bombi Bitt and I in 1968. He then entered the theater world and collaborated on several of Sweden's city theaters, both in Malmö, Uppsala and Stockholm. In 1982, with the role of the farmer boy Sven, he broke through on the screen in Hans Alfredson's film The Stupid Killer.

He was rewarded with both a Goldbag and the Silverbear at the Film Festival in Berlin for his actor performance

Won the Golden Globe

This weekend Stellan Skarsgård was also awarded with a Golden Globe award for Best Male supporting role in a mini-series or TV movie for his role performance in the HBO series Chernobyl.

In addition to Skarsgård attending the awards ceremony during the Gothenburg Film Festival, which also shows a selection of his films, he will hold a masterclass.

Gothenburg Film Festival starts on January 24.
