Syria: three dead, including an Iranian soldier, in an Israeli strike
Three people, including an Iranian soldier, were killed at dawn on Friday by an airstrike attributed to Israel against the town of Banias, in northwest Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
This is the first time that this city on the Mediterranean coast has been targeted by Israeli aircraft.

Missiles fired from the Mediterranean caused extensive damage to a villa on the southern outskirts of Banias.
Several other residences were seriously damaged by the blasts, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The inhabitants of Banias were awakened by three powerful explosions which shook the walls and spread a wave of panic in this town spared by the war which has ravaged Syria
for
twelve years and by the air raids carried out regularly by
Israel
in this country.
The official Iranian news agency Irna subsequently announced the “
martyr
” death of a member of the Revolutionary Guards, the regime’s ideological army, Reza Zarei.
She claimed that this man, presented as a “
naval guard of the Revolutionary Guards
”, had been “
killed at dawn by the Zionist regime
”, in a reference to Israel.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said several civilians were injured by shards of glass and stone.
Regular strikes
This is the 20th time since the start of the year that Israeli planes have attacked targets in Syrian territory.
These raids left 41 dead, including seven Iranians, including high-ranking officers of the Revolutionary Guards, and nine members of Lebanese Hezbollah.
A few hours earlier, Israeli planes had attacked a van in the region of Qussair, a Hezbollah stronghold in Syrian territory, not far from the Lebanese border, in the eastern Bekaa plain.
One person was killed in this strike.
