Li Zhijian, member of the Provincial CPPCC:

Enhance the manufacturing level of the shipbuilding industry to promote high-quality development of Guangdong’s marine economy

Yangcheng Evening News reporter’s literary report: From January 22 to 24, the second meeting of the 13th Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference was held in Guangzhou.

Committee members from all walks of life have offered their wisdom and suggestions and exchanged insights on high-quality development in Guangdong.

During the meeting, the construction of Guangdong as a strong maritime province received attention from many committee members’ proposals.

Li Zhijian, member of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the Guangdong Asia-Pacific Innovation Economic Research Institute, submitted a proposal to further enhance the manufacturing level of the shipbuilding industry and promote the high-quality development of Guangdong’s marine economy.

Guangdong is a major maritime province, with the longest mainland coastline in the country and the second largest sea area in the country.

Data from the 2024 Provincial Government Work Report show that Guangdong’s total marine product will account for 14% in 2023, ranking first in the country for 29 consecutive years.

Li Zhijian proposed that under the multiple backgrounds of the country building a strong maritime country and Guangdong building a strong maritime province and a strong manufacturing province, it is of great strategic significance to accelerate the development of marine ships, marine engineering equipment, new marine materials and other industries and consolidate the manufacturing base of the blue economy. .

Ship power is one of the core equipment of ships, with high added value and high technology characteristics.

Li Zhijian suggested that Guangdong should further improve its independent innovation capabilities, overcome more "stuck neck" problems, and strengthen Guangdong's cutting-edge technology reserves for green and low-carbon engines.

He gave examples, such as in terms of green and low-carbon marine engines such as methanol and ammonia fuel, to support and encourage local enterprises in Guangdong to bravely serve as the "chain leader" of the industrial chain and supply chain to promote the development of green marine engines.

At the same time, guided by the demand of the tourism market, efforts will be made to develop the manufacturing of medium-sized cruise ships.

In Li Zhijian’s view, Guangdong can learn from the construction experience of my country’s first large-scale cruise ship “Ada Magic City” to build a medium-sized cruise ship with Chinese cultural characteristics and “explore and develop tourism in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area-Sansha City, Hainan Province” The route can not only meet the needs of Chinese people to appreciate the scenery of the South China Sea, but also enhance their patriotic sentiments."

Under the new trend of the digital intelligence era, Li Zhijian also suggested vigorously developing highly intelligent and fully automatic underwater hull cleaning robots.

He said that ships are often damaged by marine organisms, and the shipping industry has an urgent need for advanced ship cleaning robots.

In this regard, Li Zhijian called on Guangdong scientific research institutes and shipping companies to strengthen technological research and use hull cleaning equipment as an entry point to develop and manufacture highly intelligent, fully automatic, multi-functional underwater hull cleaning robots.
