The Ministry of the Economy confirmed on Monday that the rate of the Livret A would be maintained at 3% and it chose to lower the rate of the Livret d'épargne populaire (LEP), reserved for the most modest, from 6% to 5% for the next six months from 1 February.

"With inflation going to fall below 3%, you will have a popular savings account whose interest will be more than two points above inflation," Bruno Le Maire told the regional daily La Voix du Nord where he was responding to the newspaper's readers.
