From 1 January, for French people who declare more than €25,000 in income per year, the ecological bonus for electric cars will be reduced from €5,000 to €4,000. This can be explained in particular by the introduction of social leasing, estimated at €250 million.

On 1 January, the environmental bonus for electric cars will be reduced from 5,000 to 4,000 euros, but only for the wealthiest buyers. It is therefore time for the government to make savings, even on ecology.

The Responsibility of Social Leasing

It will be €1,000 less if you are one of the French people who declare more than €25,000 in income per year. A decline that will not affect the other half of the poorest households, with still a bonus of 7,000 euros for the purchase of a 100% electric car. These purchases accounted for 17% of new vehicle sales registered this year, slightly more than the government's forecast. As a result, the overall budget for this aid was exceeded by €400 million.

And if you add to this the estimated €250 million for the implementation of social leasing, which will allow 2024,20 motorists to access electric vehicles in 000 for less than €100 per month, you get the two main reasons for this slashing of a bonus that is in any case limited, since it will only be compatible with 40% of the cars on the market. This was double that number before the new environmental criteria came into force on 15 December. The reduction in subsidies is a fundamental trend that should not jeopardize the rise of 100% electric vehicles, which are expected to exceed 20% of the market share next year.
