[Live] Israel-Hamas war: intense bombardment of the southern Gaza Strip
The Israeli army and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas were engaged in heavy fighting in the southern Gaza Strip on Sunday (December 10th), where hundreds of thousands of people are trapped.

■ Benjamin Netanyahu assures that Israel will continue its "just war to eliminate Hamas," praising "the adequate position taken by the United States in the UN Security Council" after its veto on a humanitarian ceasefire.
■ The Israeli military says it has "intensified" its operations in the southern Gaza Strip, including around Khan Younis and Rafah. At the beginning of its ground offensive, it had asked the population of the northern part of the Palestinian enclave to move south.
About 17,700 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza since October 7, according to the Hamas government. The majority are women and young people under the age of 18. 48,780 people were injured in the Palestinian territory. More than 1,200 Israelis were killed.
■ During the truce, 110 hostages — 86 Israelis and 24 foreigners — were freed by Hamas, according to Israel's count. For its part, Israel has released 240 Palestinian prisoners;137 hostages remain in Gaza custody, according to Israel.

06:00: Southern Gaza Strip under intense fighting
Early Sunday, the Israeli Air Force carried out "very violent air raids" near Khan Younis, and on the road between that city and Rafah, near the border with Egypt, the Hamas administration said. An AFP journalist witnessed the strikes in southern Gaza.
Hours later, a source close to the military wings of Hamas and Islamic Jihad told AFP that the two movements were involved in "violent clashes" around Khan Younis.
The Israeli military said it had "intensified" its operations in these areas of the southern Gaza Strip. "We need to increase the pressure," IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi said, adding that an increasing number of Hamas fighters had been killed.
At the very beginning of its ground offensive, the Israeli army asked the population of the northern Gaza Strip to move south.
