Chinanews.com, Dubai, December 12 -- The 2th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) "Sustainable Development Dialogue of Chinese and Foreign Well-known Entrepreneurs" was held in Dubai on December 28. Jin Junhui, Director of JA Solar Technology Co., Ltd., called on international organizations represented by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development to establish carbon targets and emission reduction path standards that meet the characteristics of the PV industry, and promote the balance and realization of PV emission reduction and global emission reduction.

According to Jin Junhui, JA Solar is the world's leading photovoltaic power generation solution platform, and its products are widely used in ground-mounted photovoltaic power stations and industrial, commercial and residential distributed photovoltaic systems, and the company's sales and service network covers 135 countries and regions around the world. Shipments of photovoltaic products account for more than 16% of the global market share.

He believes that under the wave of global energy transition and climate change and the in-depth promotion of China's "dual carbon" strategy, the establishment of an energy system dominated by renewable energy is an important way to achieve "carbon neutrality". The innovative development of the renewable energy industry, represented by photovoltaics, is an important measure to address climate change. According to the International Energy Agency, renewables will account for more than 90% of the world's new electricity capacity in the next five years. By early 2027, renewables will overtake coal as the world's largest source of electricity.

Jin Junhui specifically introduced some practices and suggestions for enterprises to cope with carbon neutrality:

Integrating sustainable development into strategy: Since its establishment, JA Solar has rooted green and low-carbon in its corporate genes, firmly believing that sustainable development is closely related to the company's strategy, and only by adhering to the concept of sustainable development can the company build a long-lasting business. In 2022, JA Solar put forward the sustainable development philosophy of building a green cycle, seeking green development together, and creating a green future around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

In terms of corporate governance, the Strategy Committee under the Board of Directors was renamed the Strategy and Sustainability Committee, which is responsible for formulating ESG-related plans, goals and systems. The Carbon Management and Sustainability Department has been set up to undertake ESG, climate, sustainable development and other issues, and link senior management KPIs with ESG goals to improve the management level of sustainable development issues and indicators.

In terms of internal operations. JA Solar has actively carried out organizational carbon screening work, and in its 2022 ESG report, it disclosed its Scope 2 to Scope 16 greenhouse gas emissions for three consecutive years, and has applied to join the SBTI (Science Based Targets). JA Solar has built a green industry chain covering the life cycle of green raw materials, packaging, low-carbon logistics, dismantling and recycling, etc. All mainstream products have been certified by the French carbon footprint. The products have helped reduce global CO<> emissions by <> million tons. At the same time, JA Solar collaborates with upstream and downstream companies to reduce carbon emissions, and in the upstream, the company has now incorporated ESG performance indicators such as "whether to adopt green electricity" and "whether to disclose carbon" into the supplier evaluation criteria. Downstream: JA Solar not only works with major power companies to promote governments to increase the proportion of new energy power generation, but also integrates with various industries through the PV+ model to help customers achieve low-carbon transformation.

Jin Junhui said that the achievement of climate goals will require the PV industry to take the lead in vigorously developing, and PV modules will consume 0.4 kWh of electricity per watt in the production process, but will output more than 30 times more clean electricity in a 100-year life cycle. We call on international organizations represented by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development to establish carbon targets and emission reduction path standards that are in line with the characteristics of the photovoltaic industry, and promote the balance and realization of PV emission reduction and global emission reduction.

The event was co-hosted by the Publicity and Education Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and Chinanews.com. (ENDS)
