The Israeli army is shelling the Gaza Strip on Saturday (December 2nd) for a second consecutive day since the expiration of a truce with Hamas, which had allowed the release of hostages and the delivery of emergency aid.

5:10 a.m.: Israeli air strikes near Damascus

The Israeli army carried out overnight strikes early Saturday near the Syrian capital Damascus, the Syrian Defense Ministry said, with no immediate casualties. "At approximately 1:35 a.m. (0:35 GMT Friday), the Israeli enemy carried out an air assault from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights targeting various locations near the capital Damascus," the Syrian Defense Ministry said in a statement, without reporting any casualties. An AFP correspondent on the outskirts of Damascus said he heard the sound of shelling. Asked by AFP, the Israeli army did not comment on the reports. Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), an NGO with an extensive network of sources in Syria, told AFP that the Israeli air force had struck "Hezbollah targets" in the Sayyida Zeinab neighbourhood in southern Damascus. Ambulances were dispatched to the scene after the strikes, he added.
