Sisi and Erdogan discussed regional collaboration, energy cooperation and strengthening bilateral ties in India on Sunday, their spokesmen said.

The two countries had restored relations at the ambassadorial level after an exchange of visits by foreign ministers and a meeting between Sisi and Erdogan at the World Cup in Qatar last year. The heads of state were in conflict over the Muslim Brotherhood.

Libya is the most urgent issue to be resolved. Egypt and Turkey almost entered into direct conflict in 2020 after their support for the Libyan armed forces of Benghazi and Tripoli. The two countries must find a modus vivendi that allows power-sharing instead of Libya.

Another key issue is gas in the Eastern Mediterranean. With its gas liquefaction plants, Egypt is leading a consortium of Greece, Cyprus and Israel. A gas that has caused sharp tensions between the two great navies of the Mediterranean. Turkey would now like to achieve a better distribution of gas wealth.

But the issue that is making the fastest progress is the economy. Cairo and Ankara have just decided to increase their trade from ten to fifteen billion dollars. To this must be added the resumption of Turkish investment in Egypt.
