We will respond to any attack on bases that have been created at the request of the Syrian government to fight terrorism and ISIS. " said the spokesman of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

This is the first time an Iranian official has issued such a warning to the United States.

Pro-Iranian fighters were killed in US airstrikes in eastern Syria on the night of Thursday to Friday, March 24. The operation was carried out in response to a drone attack that killed one American and wounded six others.

US President Joe Biden has said Washington is not seeking conflict with Iran, but will respond forcefully to any attack.

Iranian groups and their allies, who fight alongside the Damascus regime, have a strong presence in these areas close to the border with Iraq, which are an important crossing point for weapons to Syria.

The drone attack took place at midday Thursday against a maintenance facility at a US base near Hasakah.

Tension has risen between Tehran and Washington in Syria as the US chief of staff claimed that Iran could produce enough material in two weeks for the production of atomic weapons, and could make a bomb in a few months.
