Of the illicit drugs such as stimulants seized at airports across the country last year, it was found that smuggling using passenger planes has increased nearly four times compared to the previous year.

The Ministry of Finance says that the relaxation of border measures is the background.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the number of smuggling cases of stimulants, cannabis, and other drugs caught by customs at airports and ports nationwide last year was 1,044, a 25% increase from the previous year.

Of these, smuggling by so-called "smugglers" using passenger planes surged to 94, a 3.9-fold increase from the previous year.

Of these, 73 cases were exposed in the second half of the year, accounting for nearly 80% of the year.

In addition, 207 cases were brought in by air cargo flights, an increase of 1.9 times compared to the previous year.

With the relaxation of border measures, the number of flights is expected to increase in the future, and the Ministry of Finance plans to thoroughly inform foreign visitors to Japan about domestic drug regulations.
