The October consumer price index in Tokyo's 23 wards rose 3.4% compared to the same month last year, excluding fresh food, which fluctuates greatly depending on the weather.

It is the first time in 33 years that the 3.4% increase will be the highest in 40 years and 4 months since June 1982, excluding the effects of the consumption tax hike.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as of mid-October, the consumer price index excluding fresh food in Tokyo's 23 wards rose from 99.8 in October last year to 103.2.

The main factor was the "price hike" of food products, which was caused by the rapid depreciation of the yen in addition to the rise in raw material prices.

Specifically, compared to the same month last year,

▽ "hamburger at restaurants" was 18.3%,

▽ "red bean bun" was 17.1%,

▽ "chocolate" was 10.8%,

▽ "imported pork" was 7.4%,

▽ “Beer” increased by 7%

.

In addition,

▽ "gas cost" increased by 28.8%, and

▽ "electricity cost"

increased by 26.9%.

▽“Mobile phone” increased by 16.5%, and

“Room air conditioner”

increased by 12.2%.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, "October saw a 'price hike', and excluding the impact of the consumption tax hike, the rate of increase is the first in about 40 years."

The index for the 23 wards of Tokyo is published before the index for the whole country, so it is attracting attention as a leading index.

The October national index will be released on November 18th.
