It was found that on the 15th, when the Kakao service was interrupted for nearly 10 hours due to a data center fire, the total usage time of KakaoTalk plummeted to half the level of the previous day.

Other services of Kakao, such as Kakao T, Kakao Maps, and Kakao Pay, also suffered a sudden decline.

Due to the fire at Pangyo SK C&C, these services were disrupted, such as sending and receiving messages from around 3:33 pm on the 15th.

On the other hand, Naver messenger app Line and Naver Maps, Tmap Mobility's taxi calling app Uti and navigation app Tmap enjoyed reflective benefits.

According to today's (18th) mobile index count of big data platform company IG Works, KakaoTalk users' total usage time (Google Android, Apple iOS combined) was about 14.10 million hours, and 18.73 million the previous day. It was found that it plunged 44.41% from the female hour.

Daily active users (DAU) were over 34.3 million, down 1.75%.

This is the shortest daily usage time since May 2020, when Mobile Index started counting on both mobile operating systems.

In recent months, the total number of KakaoTalk usage hours on weekends and holidays has fallen to between 12 and 14 million units, but this is the first time that it has fallen to 10 million units.

On the 15th, the average usage time per user was only 18.2 minutes, down 13.97 minutes from the previous day.

This is also the first time that KakaoTalk's per capita usage time fell to 10 minutes during the mobile index counting period.

Kakao Mobility's 15-day total usage time of 'Kakao T', a service app for taxis, surrogates, bikes, and kickboards, also plummeted by 38.17% from the previous day.

Kakao Map fell by 22.68% and Kakao Bus also fell by 42.14%.

The use of the portal service Daum app also decreased by 23.83%.

In Kakao Pay (-56.12%) and Kakao Page (-50.72%), the decrease in usage time was also remarkable.

Instead of the Pangyo SK C&C data center that caught fire, Kakao Bank saved only 10.23%, with the LG CNS Center in Sangam-dong, Seoul as the main computer center, and there was no problem in the operation of its core functions.

Most of the competitor apps that can replace Kakao service have increased usage time.

The total daily usage hours of Line increased by 108.28% from 92,000 hours on 14 days to 192,000 hours on 15 days.

The number of DAUs also increased by 118.34% to 966,000 people in one day.

Time spent on the Naver app increased by 11.69%, Naver Maps increased by 41.02%, and Naver Series increased by 15.32%.

UTI, a joint venture between Uber and Tmap Mobility, used 15,000 hours, a whopping 353.51%, and DAU, 147,000, a 230.72% increase.

T-map usage time increased by 20.51%.

Telegram, which received attention as an alternative to KakaoTalk, showed a 10.3% decrease in usage time on the 15th.

Telegram posted on social media on the 17th, "Telegram has become one of the most downloaded apps in Korea. We hope that new Korean users will enjoy the stability of Telegram's multi-data center infrastructure."

Some of the errors that occurred in various services of Kakao such as KakaoTalk and some services of Naver continued until this morning, the fourth day of the incident.
