Plans to launch a new nano-satellite in the first quarter of 2023

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), inaugurated the authority's ground station at the Research and Development Center at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex, as part of the Authority's Space Program (SpaceD).

The authority said in a statement that the independent ground station is capable of tracking and communicating with the authority's low Earth orbit satellites at an altitude of 400-700 km.

Al Tayer praised the efforts of researchers at the Research and Development Center in developing and building the ground station, praising their success in inventing advanced technologies and developing solutions using “Internet of Things” technology for satellites, stressing the importance of the role of researchers in finding specialized use systems for the production, transmission and distribution of electricity and water. Improving the management of the power grid and water transmission and distribution networks.

He said: "Through the (SpaceD) program launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in January 2021, we aim to have nano-satellite technology complement the terrestrial Internet of Things communications network, to support Digitizing energy and water networks, raising the efficiency and effectiveness of planning, operating and preventive maintenance processes for the production, transmission and distribution sectors, smart networks, and electric vehicle charging stations, in addition to reducing costs and improving the investment of the authority’s assets, as well as transferring knowledge and expertise and training the authority’s national cadres.

He continued, "We plan, during the first quarter of next year, to launch another (U6) nano-satellite for remote sensing applications."
