The United Arab Emirates ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa region and 11 globally in the Quality Infrastructure Index for Sustainable Development, issued by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization “UNIDO” and the International Network for Quality Infrastructure (INet QI) for the year 2022 for the category of countries with output The gross domestic product is between $100 billion and $1 trillion, ahead of countries such as Portugal, Singapore, Finland, Denmark, and Belgium.

This indicator is considered an effective tool for comparing the strength of quality infrastructure in countries of the world, to achieve sustainable economic development.

This reflects the advanced Emirati capabilities in the quality infrastructure system, where the index is based on five basic elements, namely, standard specifications, standards, accreditation, conformity assessment and the national quality policy, in a way that supports the implementation of national legislation and contributes to achieving national strategic goals, in addition to its contribution to meeting the needs of partners. From government and private sectors, manufacturers, suppliers and consumers.

Raising standards and efficiency

His Excellency Omar Al Suwaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, stressed that the UAE has an advanced system for quality infrastructure elements, managed by the ministry, within a clear strategic vision to contribute to sustainable economic growth based on knowledge and innovation, and it includes technical legislation, standard specifications, standards, accreditation, and evaluation. These goals are supported by the quality infrastructure system, where the Ministry and its partners apply. More than 26,000 standards and technical regulations within vital sectors such as future industries, information technology, management systems, education, health, advanced technology, construction, food and agriculture, electricity, metrology, oil and gas, chemistry and spinning and weaving in a way that supports the quality infrastructure system and enhances Competitiveness of the UAE regionally and globally.

And this achievement in the "Quality Infrastructure for Sustainable Development" index represents a high international praise for the efforts of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology and its strategic partners in achieving sustainable growth and enhancing the country's position in global competitiveness reports.


Establishing the foundations of the economy

On this occasion, His Excellency Dr. Hilal Humaid Al Kaabi, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, affirmed the keenness of the Government of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to consolidate the foundations of a knowledge-based economy to enhance its presence in global markets by developing a quality infrastructure in accordance with international standards of quality and conformity, through standardization and development of specifications, and capacity building.
