"Dear Carlos (...) As Carlos said (...) I want to congratulate BBVA's board of directors...".

The President of the Government,

Pedro Sánchez

, has made a parenthesis this Thursday in his attacks on banking, which he describes in recent months as "dark power", and has exhibited great harmony with at least one of the main banks in the country, BBVA and its president,

Carlos Torres

.

The chairman dedicated himself to opening the second edition of the BBVA Sustainability Forum, delivering a long speech in favor of accelerating the energy transition and congratulating the bank's leadership

"for making sustainability the center of your priorities"

.

Sánchez has avoided mentioning the banking tax that confronts the financial sector.

He has not commented on the extraordinary profits that, in his opinion, the entities accumulate since the rise in interest rates by the European Central Bank.

He has preferred to present himself as a Prime Minister eager to attract investment for the energy transition and who offers stability.

"This government wants to be an ally of the private sector"

, he has affirmed in contrast to his rhetoric of these weeks about the "economic powers" that want to "break" the government.

Torres has slipped that

"public policies must provide the stability and confidence that investors need"

and Sánchez has agreed.

"It is important to give investors legal stability. I humbly believe that it is what we have done since 2018," she has come to say.

The president has underlined the need for the transition to be "fair" and has called on Ibex companies to commit more to the goal of zero emissions.

"Only 14%

have done so", he stated.

In that percentage that has assumed the commitment is BBVA.

The President of the Government has claimed measures such as the "Iberian exception" that has saved up to now 2,300 million according to his estimate and his pioneering role in requesting a reform of the energy market in the EU.
