Inflation accelerated again in France in July, to 6.1% over one year, INSEE revealed last week.

Inflation was driven by the increase in the price of services as well as by food, but hygiene products in pharmacies are also increasing.

Inflation, increasingly strong in France, reached 6.1% in July according to INSEE.

Prices continue to rise in supermarkets, at the pump but also in pharmacies.

For several months, all parapharmacy products and non-reimbursed drugs have increased by 7 to 15%.

This increase is visible on customer receipts, such as that of Kallassi.

"In December, I bought an anti-wrinkle cream for my mother. It cost me 30 euros. Now it's August, I bought the same cream, with the same dosage, it increased of 10 euros", she explains.

"I don't know if next time I'm going to go for the same product or not, I'm going to go for a cheaper product," Kallasi continues.

Pampers nappies increased by 91.3%

The products most affected by this increase are those intended for babies.

"Milk, diapers, which we will find with very big changes, for example with Pampers, which has made a price increase of more than 91%", warns Audrey Lecoq, founder of the online pharmacy Pharmazon.

"Today a mother who is going to equip herself for her baby, she may skip a tototte or a pack of diapers that she will not take from Pampers but from another brand."

This critical situation is likely to last since, as with other consumer products, pharmaceuticals are affected by rising energy and transport costs.
