Ford is preparing to cut several thousand positions to cut costs and step up its transition to electric vehicles.

The group should soon announce the elimination of more than 4,000 jobs, according to the

Wall Street Journal

on Wednesday.

The

Bloomberg

agency for its part mentioned “up to 8,000 positions” in abeyance.

When asked, a Ford spokesperson declined to comment on these "speculations".

But according to the first information, the workers would not be concerned.

Ford plans to cut several thousand salaried jobs, people familiar with the matter say.

The cuts are tied to auto maker's goal of eliminating $3 billion in annual costs by 2026. https://t.co/Qhnn38Ohj6

Ford does not confirm

The American automaker has still scheduled a conference this Thursday to give details of its transformation plan.

Executives will explain in more detail how Ford plans to achieve “production of 600,000 electric vehicles worldwide, then 2 million per year by 2026”, according to a press release.

To carry out this transition, “we are reshaping our work and modernizing our organization,” said the spokesperson.

“We have set clear targets for our cost structure so that we are lean and fully competitive with the best in the industry.

Urgent electrification

Pushed by Tesla and other rivals, traditional automakers have accelerated the electrification of their lineups in recent years.

In March, Ford even announced the creation of a dedicated entity: Ford Model e.

The planned budget for this project is 50 billion dollars.

Ford executives have also announced their desire to reduce spending in the thermal vehicle sector.

Asked about possible job cuts, a manager stressed that “everything was on the table”.
