China News Service, March 5 (Reporter Peng Dawei) The reporter learned from the Hamburg Liaison Office in China on the 4th that in 2021, the container trade between the Port of Hamburg and China will achieve a growth of 5.5% (year-on-year, the same below), reaching 260 10,000 TEUs, consolidating China's position as Hamburg's most important trading partner to date.

Meanwhile, some 160,000 TEUs were transported by rail between Hamburg and more than 25 destinations in China last year, an increase of 51 percent.

The Port of Hamburg, located in Hamburg, the second largest city in Germany, is the second largest port in Europe and the largest port in Germany.

Axel Mattern, executive director of the Hamburg Port Marketing Association, said that in addition to sea transport, more and more containers are also being transported by rail between China and Hamburg.

Hamburg is the main starting point and destination for German maritime container transport and container train lines on the New Silk Road.

“Even though there are more than 12,000 kilometers of routes between China and Hamburg, which previously took around 20 days to transport by rail, land transport on the New Silk Road is faster compared to ocean-going ships. For time-critical goods, the relationship between Hamburg and China is faster. Container trains in between offer a very attractive option.”

It is reported that in 2021, about 160,000 TEUs will be transported by rail between Hamburg and at least 25 destinations in China, a very strong growth, up 51% compared to last year.

There are currently more than 290 Chinese train lines to and from Hamburg, which are sold by different suppliers.

"We are very much looking forward to that" Hapag-Lloyd will open the new China-Germany Express (CGX) from April, connecting the Port of Hamburg and the Dachan Bay terminal in the southern Chinese port of Shenzhen by rail every week, Mattern said.

According to him, this new container train will further supplement a total of 18 routes connecting Hamburg and Chinese ports, and consolidate Hamburg's position as an important trading partner port of China.
