Demand for housing is strong as we spend more time at home on telework.

The number of housing units started nationwide in November was more than 73,000, an increase of more than 3% from the same month last year, the ninth consecutive month of increase.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the number of houses started nationwide in November was 73,414, an increase of 3.7% from the same month last year.

The increase has been for 9 consecutive months, and it seems that the longer spending time at home, such as the spread of telework triggered by the new coronavirus, has led to strong housing demand.

Looking at the breakdown, the number of "owned houses" indicating custom-built houses was 25,329, an increase of 5.5% from the same month last year, an increase for 13 consecutive months.

“Rental houses” such as rental apartments also increased by 1.4% to 26,819 units, the 9th consecutive month of increase.

In addition, among "condominiums" such as condominiums and built-for-sale houses, the number of single-family homes was 12,509, an increase of 10%, a double-digit increase, indicating that the need for large housing is increasing.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said, "Compared to last year, the number of construction starts has been on a recovery trend, but there are some businesses whose orders are currently decreasing. There is a possibility that it will have an impact, so I would like to keep an eye on the trends. "
