(Economic Observation) Guangdong "little giant" enterprises increase innovation and R&D to seize market segments

China News Service, Guangzhou, September 18 (Sun Qiuxia) Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China announced the third batch of national-level specialization and new "little giant" enterprises. So far, Guangdong has 433 small and medium-sized enterprises on the list. The volume ranks second in the country.

Compared with large enterprises wearing a halo, the "little giant" enterprises aim at a "city wall" and become a leader in the national and even global market segments.

At present, in the face of rising raw material prices and the severe epidemic situation abroad, how can Guangdong "little giant" enterprises break through and upgrade?

A few days ago, reporters visited Dongguan and Foshan and found that "little giant" companies are walking on "two legs" in the international and domestic markets, and continue to increase R&D investment, relying on innovation to seize market segments.

In Liaobu Town, Dongguan City, an ordinary village road is located in Guangdong Anda Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Anda Intelligent"), which produced the first fully automatic multifunctional high-speed dispenser in China.

Anda Smart is one of the "little giant" enterprises in Dongguan. It has a plant of about 20,000 square meters and more than 1,200 employees. Its products are mainly used in the manufacturing of high-end mobile phones and other smart devices. At present, it has become Apple, Goertek, Foxconn, BYD and other domestic companies. Equipment suppliers of well-known foreign companies.

Liu Fei, Chairman and General Manager of Anda Intelligence, introduced that as an equipment manufacturing company, the company focuses on the accumulation of underlying basic technology and has continuously increased its independent research and development of core components in recent years.

Anda Intelligent has successively realized independent research and development of key hardware such as linear motors and drives, allowing enterprises to gain a competitive advantage in market segments.

Benefiting from customer demand for capacity expansion, Anda Smart's annual revenue will reach 506 million yuan (RMB, the same below) in 2020, an increase of 39.63% over the same period last year.

From January to June 2021, the company achieved revenue of 237 million yuan.

Anda Intelligence is an epitome of the development of Dongguan's "Little Giant" enterprise. In recent years, Dongguan's high-tech industry has risen rapidly.

Diao Simian, secretary-general of Dongguan High-tech Industry Association, pointed out that at present, the number of high-tech enterprises in Dongguan has reached 6,385, ranking among the forefront of prefecture-level cities in the country, with an output value of more than 1.2 trillion yuan.

In addition, the association has established nine major industry technology service platforms, linking universities, enterprises, associations, and testing institutions to tackle key problems in the card neck technology.

At present, Dongguan's total social R&D investment accounts for 3.06% of GDP, which is equivalent to the investment level of developed countries.

In Shunde District of Foshan City, there are also a group of "specialized, special and new" small giant enterprises. Guangdong Jiateng Robot Automation Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Jiateng Robot") is one of them.

Jiateng Robot is a local private intelligent equipment company in Foshan, focusing on the research and development of mobile robots. It has become one of the top ten brands of industrial robots in China.

Chen Hongbo, vice president of Jiateng Robotics, said: "The company has been established for more than ten years and has focused on market segments. The company has more than 450 employees, including more than 150 R&D personnel. At present, our robots have been updated to the eighth generation. Walking staggeringly, now I have realized a steady run."

In response to the needs of epidemic prevention and control, Jiateng Robotics has launched disinfection robots for use in the medical industry and at the same time opening up the agricultural market.

"Under the epidemic, more and more companies are thinking about replacing traditional labor with robots, which brings opportunities for the robot industry to expand market share. Our current annual sales growth rate exceeds 40%, and we are still in a period of rapid growth." Chen Hongbo said.

According to Chen Yang, Secretary-General of the Shunde High-tech Enterprise Association, the output value of high-tech products in Shunde District accounts for nearly 50% of the total industrial output value of the overall regional plan. The high-tech industry as a whole is developing rapidly. In 2006, there were only about 100 high-tech enterprises, and it will reach 2150 in 2020. The number of homes has increased 20 times in 15 years.
