Emmanuel Macron called on Wednesday evening to "systematize" teleworking in the coming days in companies.

According to the latest figures from the Directorate General of Labor, one in six companies did not use telework recently in France, even though they were able to do so.

Closure of schools for three weeks preceded by a week of distance learning, extension of restrictions already in force in 19 departments to the entire metropolis, limited travel especially after the Easter weekend ... The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron announced Wednesday evening a new turn of the screw in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic.

Admittedly, the head of state did not decide in favor of strict confinement, but he demanded an additional effort from the French, in particular on teleworking.

But according to figures from the Directorate General of Labor, one in six companies does not use telework when it could.

A margin of progress on which the executive relies to contain the epidemic.

Real leeway

"Teleworking, which is undoubtedly the most effective measure, will be systematized, and I call on all workers and employers to use it whenever they can," insisted Emmanuel Macron.

According to a study by the Institut Pasteur unveiled in early March, this practice would limit the risk of contamination by 20 to 30% compared to face-to-face, depending on partial or total application.

However, one in six companies had so far not set up teleworking.

And among companies that already respect the rules, just over 30% still have leeway to go further.

These too are targeted by the government.

The closure of schools, a measure feared by businesses

The latest Harris Interactive study for the Ministry of Labor also indicates that French people able to telework are at a distance on average three or four days a week.

Thanks to the new measures announced Wednesday evening, the executive hopes to get closer to an average of five days, which had been reached during the first confinement.

This is why Emmanuel Macron announced the closure of schools, a measure feared by all human resources departments in companies.

According to them, with this measure Emmanuel Macron sets up strict confinement without having to pronounce these terms.

But to the National Association of HRDs, we confided: "This is the one and only measure that can make it possible to go beyond the current glass ceiling in terms of teleworking."
