Major Emirati companies have reviewed their social responsibility initiatives and programs during the last period to support efforts to combat the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and to alleviate those affected by the pandemic, whether programs directed to their employees or those directed to the local community, at a time when it confirmed Companies that their social responsibility programs have extended to other countries and societies, and to refugees, in cooperation with the Emirates Red Crescent Authority.

Officials of these companies told "Emirates Today" that their social contributions included humanitarian and voluntary initiatives, aid in the fields of education, health, and housing, as well as the distribution of food, clothing, medical supplies, and face masks to families in quarantine and places where workers live, in addition to Employees volunteer to help government agencies and institutions in their programs to combat the pandemic, and to encourage society to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Emirates Steel

In detail, the CEO of Emirates Steel, Engineer Saeed Ghamran Al-Rumaithi, said that the company is working according to a clear strategy for social responsibility, which includes a package of humanitarian and voluntary initiatives.

He added that the company launched and participated in 17 humanitarian, community and voluntary initiatives inside and outside the country during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, in coordination with the relevant authorities, benefiting more than 13,560 people.

Al-Rumaithi explained that the social contributions of Emirates Steel included aid for needy families, the elderly, distributing foodstuffs, providing Eid clothing for needy children, in addition to contributing to the “vision range” initiative to combat river blindness, and cooperating with the Foundation for Community Contributions - Together. The company’s employees also volunteered in many humanitarian and environmental events and programs, as well as directing humanitarian aid to Arab countries such as Lebanon and Sudan, in cooperation with the Emirates Red Crescent Authority.

Al-Rumaithi stated that the company focused during the pandemic on supporting activities that enhance interaction with various groups of society, given that these activities are an integral part of its societal role.

Emirates Aluminum

For his part, Director of Government Relations at Emirates Global Aluminum, Khalifa Al Mazrouei, said that 63 doctors, nurses and employees work in the company's medical centers in the UAE permanently, and they are committed to providing support around the clock to maintain the safety of employees, pointing out that the company has hired two medical teams. Others, to focus on conducting virus testing for employees.

He explained that "Emirates Aluminum" has doubled its medical team at its subsidiary, Guinea Alumina Corporation, in Guinea, to support and care for its employees. He stressed that the company cooperated during the pandemic with the Ministry of Education, in a virtual practical training program, to enhance the capabilities of Emirati youth, encourage them to continue their studies, and choose science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields for their importance in developing the industrial sector and building a knowledge-based economy.

Etihad Airways

In the same context, Dr. Nadia Bastaki, Vice President for Medical Services and Social Responsibility at Etihad Airways, said that the company had strengthened its role in the field of social responsibility during the last period, to combat the pandemic and help those affected.

She explained that more than 3000 employees of "Etihad Airways" volunteered to extend a helping hand to various government agencies and institutions during the pandemic, including their assignment to work with the "Health", "Together" and the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, and about 800 employees registered at the platform. Emirates Volunteers, a community response platform to support efforts to combat COVID-19.

She added that the volunteers distributed food, basic subsistence items, and clothes to needy families and families in quarantine, and workers' accommodations, as well as distributing face masks to police personnel, doctors, and volunteers on the front lines in Abu Dhabi.

Al Masoud: 3 main axes of social responsibility

Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Masoud Group, Ahmed Rahma Al Masoud, said that the group has strengthened its role in the field of social responsibility in combating the pandemic and helping the affected people.

He added that the second axis is support for youth and sports, pointing out that the group played a role in supporting and sponsoring various events, competitions, tournaments and sports activities at the level of the Emirates in general.
