Keihan Electric Railway, headquartered in Osaka, will stop selling magnetic type commuter passes in 19 days.

The background is that the need for non-contact IC cards is further increasing due to the new corona.

Keihan Electric Railway has been selling commuter passes for the IC card "ICOCA" since 2011.

As of the end of October last year, 85% of commuter pass users used IC cards, and the spread of commuter passes has progressed.

In addition, the need for non-contact IC cards is increasing due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, and the company has decided to end the sale of magnetic type commuter passes in 19 days.

Tickets can be used until the end of this month.

However, in the case of a disability discount commuter pass, it is explained that a magnetic commuter pass will be issued if the user so desires.

Keihan Electric Railway said, "Since the new year is about to begin, we decided to end it at this time. IC cards are widespread and I think the impact will be small."

Osaka Monorail also announced that it will end sales of magnetic commuter passes in September.

The spread of non-contact IC cards is likely to accelerate further on railways.
