The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will develop domestic airports as bases for renewable energy such as solar power generation toward the realization of a carbon-free society, and will compile concrete measures to reduce carbon dioxide emitted from the airports by the end of this year. It was decided.

According to estimates by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, carbon dioxide emitted from domestic airports amounted to approximately 2.6 million tons as of FY2018, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will soon set up a study group by experts to promote efforts for decarbonization. We have solidified our policy.

The study group will discuss how to develop the airport as a base for renewable energy, such as installing a large-scale solar power generation facility by taking advantage of the fact that there are few tall buildings in the vicinity.

In addition, in order to reduce carbon dioxide emitted from the airport, we will consider concrete measures such as LED lighting, electrification of vehicles used in the airport, and reduction of fuel consumption when the aircraft moves between the runway and the terminal. To do.

And we plan to put together these measures by the end of the year together with support measures to support them.

Aircraft are being scrutinized worldwide as they emit more greenhouse gases than other modes of transportation, and airline companies are aiming for full-scale introduction of fuels that are not derived from petroleum. We are working on it.
