In recent years, a meeting has been held to consider the catch quota for the Japanese flying squid, which has been suffering from poor fishing next year, and it is necessary to further analyze the future outlook, so next year is the same as this year, which was the lowest level so far5 It was decided to temporarily maintain 17,000 tons.

Since the Japanese flying squid continues to be seriously unfished, the Fisheries Agency sets an upper limit for catches every year, and on the 17th, a meeting was held with fishermen to consider the catch quota for the next year. ..

The new Fisheries Act, which came into force this month, sets annual quotas after setting targets for stocks that can maintain maximum catches.

At the conference, the results of resource surveys and future prospects were presented by national research institutes, but the opinion that "Squid" has a short lifespan, the amount of resources fluctuates greatly, and further analysis is necessary, and China etc. There were a number of opinions that it was necessary to consider how much the impact of the catch should be reflected.

For this reason, next year, we will tentatively maintain the same 57,000 tons as this year, which was the lowest level since 1998 when the national government set a catch quota.

The Fisheries Agency will consult with the council in January next year to formally determine the catch quota for next year.

On the other hand, regarding the setting of catch quotas from the next fiscal year onward, we will further carry out necessary surveys and research in the future.
