After weeks of negotiating with the unions, Primark, the Irish low-cost fashion chain,
has presented temporary employment regulation files (ERTE) in the communities where the closure of its stores has been decreed
within the restrictions approved to stop the second wave of the pandemic.
They are Catalonia, Asturias, Castilla y León and Andalusia.
This measure, a chain spokesman pointed out,
"is temporary," it affects all store employees in the aforementioned communities
and will end when they can reopen.
Primark plans to pay a non-salary supplement to improve unemployment benefit, up to 80% of the monthly fixed salary.
"Nothing matters to us more than the safety and well-being of our employees and customers and according to the authorities' guidelines,
some Primark stores in Catalonia, Asturias, Castilla y León and Andalusia are closed,
" said the aforementioned spokesperson.
Primark
has more than 45 establishments in Spain throughout the national territory and a workforce of more than 7,000 employees.
At the beginning the Irish chain raised an ERTE for organizational and production reasons (ETOP) that finally did not go ahead, as it did not reach an agreement with the unions.
The chain, which belongs to the Associated British Foods (AB Foods) group,
had a profit of 402 million euros in its fiscal year
(ended in September), 60% less than in the same period last year.
Turnover was reduced by 24% (6,545 million euros) precisely due to the impact of the pandemic on its activity.
