According to the president of Medef Sud, the economy of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region is more strongly affected than elsewhere by the health and economic crisis.

The region "continues to suffer a little more than the others", deplores Yvon Grosso.

The region is thus the third beneficiary of the loan system guaranteed by the State and of the solidarity fund, in number of companies and in amount, while its GDP is only sixth at the national level.

Tourism very affected

These data can be explained by “all the tourist and related activity, which comes out very affected” by the health crisis, said Yvon Grosso, president of Medef Sud, during a situation report on Wednesday.

11% of the companies benefiting from the loan system guaranteed by the State, and 10% of the beneficiaries of the solidarity fund are located in Paca, according to figures cited by the employers' organization.

"We have more requests, more very fragile micro-enterprises which have called on this solidarity fund to survive," said Yvon Grosso.

Some 85,000 employees also benefited from the partial activity device at the end of August in the region, he detailed.

As a direct consequence of the slowdown in economic activity, declarations prior to hiring fell by 11.4% over one year in Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur, according to INSEE, but this slowdown is less rapid than 'in the first trimester.

More than elsewhere, private salaried employment fell, by -1.5% in the second quarter in the region, still according to INSEE, against -0.9% nationally.
