According to the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy of Japan, if construction actually begins, it will be the second case in the world after Finland.

In Sweden, the construction plan for the final disposal site for spent nuclear fuel at nuclear power plants is underway by SKB = Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company, which is funded by electric power companies, etc., and in 2009, Forsmarck in Östhammar City conducted a survey. , Was selected as the planned construction site.



In the city of Esthammar, discussions have been held with SKB while considering the impact on the environment, but on the 14th, Mayor Spangenberg said at a press conference, "We have taken a long time to carefully consider it. But after a thorough discussion, I am confident in this decision, "he said, officially expressing his acceptance of the disposal site.



SKB submitted a permit application to the government for the construction of a final disposal site in 2011, and this time the local government officially accepted it, so the government will make the final decision in the future.



SKB will start construction in the early 2020s, complete the disposal site in about 10 years, and then start disposal around 2030.



Construction of the final disposal site began in Finland in 2016, and according to the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy of Japan, it will be the second case in the world if construction begins in Sweden.
