Among them are families of jihadists from the Islamic State group.

Many NGOs have been sounding the alarm for months.

The situation of extreme misery in the detention camps in northeastern Syria is only getting worse.

For months the Syrian Kurdish authorities have been calling for an international solution to this very concrete problem inherited in their territory from the war against the Islamic State organization.

In this al-Hol camp live more than 64,000 people, a small half are Syrians, thousands of detainees are Iraqis, but there are also Westerners with their children.

Some are displaced people who fled the fighting, others close to jihadists.

All have been locked up for a year and a half.

Western countries from which some residents come refuse to take care of them.

France, for example, has accepted the trickle-down of only a few of the 250 French children currently in these camps.

Over the months, illnesses have claimed many lives, particularly among children.

The decision was therefore taken to release the Syrians and keep only foreigners.

These are therefore families of combatants.

The jihadists themselves will remain in prison still at the expense of the Syrian Kurdish authorities.

These releases of course raise many questions, including how to reintegrate these families into Syrian society.

Where will those whose homes are now under the regime's control or completely destroyed go?
