The prices of mutual health insurance have exploded this year.

This is what points out a study conducted by Meilleurtaux.com, and revealed Monday by Europe 1 and

Le Parisien

, on nearly a million prices charged in August and September.

If the increase concerns the three typical profiles - young people, families and seniors - it is the latter who drink the most.

Today, a couple contract with reinforced guarantees costs more than 2,800 euros per year, against 2,560 last year.

In 15 departments, the bar of 3,000 euros has even been crossed.

All categories combined, it is in Île-de-France, Paris in the lead, and around the Mediterranean that prices are reaching record highs.

A surge explained by the rise in healthcare costs

If the trend was already on the rise, the health context has not helped, explains Fabien Socio, insurance expert at Meilleurtaux.com.

"The surge in prices in mutual health insurance is mainly explained by the rise in health costs. Every year, they increase by about 3 to 4% and we have contracts which increase as much", explains the professional.

“Today, we are in an uncertain and troubled climate with the coronavirus crisis, the establishment of 100% Health and a tax that represents around 1.5 billion euros. All this weighs on mutual health in a climate where, already, the balance of contracts was not assured. "

The risk of this price explosion, recalls Fabien Socio, is that policyholders terminate their contracts to go to less expensive, but less covering mutuals.

In other words, that the French treat themselves less well and less quickly.
