The history of Antibiotics of León (ADL) once made juicy headlines. Created in the postwar period (1949) to produce penicillin, the origin responded, as in so many other cases, to the autarkic desire of Francoism. In the early 1970s, this company led the national pharmaceutical sector; in the mid-80s, with the PSOE in command and Carlos Solchaga as influential minister, Antibiotics was privatized and fell into the hands of Juan Abelló and Mario Conde, who in theory were to strictly follow the instructions of the felipismo, bent on building national champions in critical areas of the economy.
