The delivery service Uber Eats announced on Monday that it would cease its activity on June 4 in the Czech Republic, Egypt, Honduras, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and Uruguay. However, Uber will continue to transport people with driver in its countries. This decision corresponds to Uber Eats' strategy of "being in first or second position" where this activity exists, which implies "investing in certain countries", and "leaving others".

Indeed, these seven countries represent only 1% of Uber Eats bookings, specifies the group, but 4% of its losses. "In line with our strategy, we will reinvest these savings in priority markets where we expect a better return on investment," says Uber.

Uber affected by coronavirus

The American platform suffered the full force of the coronavirus crisis, which drastically reduced the need for transport. To compensate, the group notably increased its deliveries of dishes from restaurants. It has also been running errands since the start of the pandemic, and has expanded its services to transport packages and personal items.

Uber, which is due to release quarterly results on Thursday, said it had enough cash to weather the economic crisis with some $ 10 billion in available funds.
