• Grants: Decathlon blocks sale of diving masks to donate to hospitals
  • Live: Last minute of the coronavirus

From Decathlon's respirators to Leroy Merlin's welding shields turned into protectors. The business is donating gadgets of the most diverse kind to alleviate the lack of protective material in hospitals.

The sporting goods chain Decathlon has donated all the snorkels it had in stock to hand over to hospitals and to use as emergency respirators.

In the case of the Leroy Merlin DIY Chain and Housewares, it is the goggles used to protect yourself when welding that are now being used as a protection method. In addition, the chain has donated more than 3,000 coils of filament for the production of 45,000 splash protection screens for health personnel and volunteers.

"Leroy Merlin wants to help ensure the safety and well-being of all those who are on the front lines of battle so that they can carry out their professional work in the best possible way," they say.

They are donating items that are normally sold in their stores and that are now used to fight the pandemic such as PPE, gloves, goggles, sheets, pillows and trays, among others.

Coronavirus market

The company collaborates with the "Coronavirus Makers" project, which aims to 3D print these materials around the entire Spanish geography so that they can later be sent to hospitals, residences and health centers.

"Coronavirus Makers already has more than 13,000 volunteers who, from their homes, are in charge of preparing sanitary materials for professionals and patients," the network points out.

It should be noted that the company is immersed in a constant search for more material among its Spanish suppliers so that it can be distributed to those entities that need it, including those who have prior knowledge and the necessary tools for the 3D production of medical equipment. .

Leroy Merlin works with its suppliers to ensure product availability to consumers. As in the case of Decathlon, many of these donated products are no longer in stock, but we are talking with suppliers to be able to manufacture more and donate them for this new use.
