Mipim usually brings together more than 25,000 participants - ASM / Sipa

It is another blow for the Cannes economy. First postponed to June due to the coronavirus crisis, Mipim, the largest real estate congress in the world, will ultimately not take place.

"It is clear that holding a fair of the magnitude of Mipim in Cannes in June is no longer possible given the rapid spread, the devastating impact and the uncertain evolution of the virus," announced Filippo Rean, the director of the real estate division of Reed Midem, the organizer of this fair which brings together nearly 25,000 participants.

"Social and economic disaster"

The Cannes meeting will turn into “a gathering of real estate and innovation professionals” for two days in Paris, in September, specifies Reed Midem. And the organizers will also offer "a new online experience", MIPIM Connect, which will be available all year round for participants.

Hotels, shops… the news will impact many professionals on the Côte d'Azur. A canceled Mipim, "it is 350,000 euros less turnover for us", explained to 20 Minutes Annick Le Roch, the director of Ernest traiteur, a Cannes company founded in 1936. A few weeks ago, the LR Mayor of Cannes David Lisnard feared "a real social and economic disaster for the tourism sector".

It remains to be seen whether the organizers of the Cannes Festival will be able to carry out their plan to postpone the event "to the end of June, beginning of July" or whether they too will have to resolve to smash their 2020 edition.
