US stocks jumped at the open today, amid signs that Washington was approaching an agreement on an economic rescue package of two trillion dollars, which gave rise to optimism in the stricken markets under the weight of selling operations, which is the most severe since the global financial crisis.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 1130.26 points, or 6.08 percent, to 19722.19 points, and the S&P 500 index increased by 107.04 points, or 4.78 percent, to 2,444.44 points, and the Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 335.47 points, or 4.89 percent, to 7196.15 points at the opening.
