Yang Zhenhai pointed out that since last year, the Party Central Committee and the State Council have adopted a series of strong policy measures to promote the recovery and development of pig production. The situation of pig production in the fourth quarter of China has begun to improve. Currently, the number of fertile sows has rebounded for five consecutive months. The impact on pig production is gradually being resolved, and pig production continues to recover.

The number of fertile sows, live pigs and newborn piglets has increased

According to the monitoring of 400 designated counties across the country, the sow breeding stocks in February increased by 1.7% month-on-month, and increased for the fifth consecutive month, an increase of 10.0% compared with September last year. There are 27 provinces in the country where fertile sow stocks have increased month-on-month, an increase of 5 provinces from January.

"The reserve sows that had previously supplemented the stalls in the farms successively gave birth to piglets, the number of newborn piglets increased, and the effect of the recovery of basic production capacity began to appear." Yang Zhenhai said that in February the number of newborn piglets on a scale of over 500 pigs nationwide increased by 3.4 month-on-month. %, Which is the first month-on-month increase since monitoring started in September last year.

According to Yang Zhenhai, during the Spring Festival consumption season, the number of pigs on the market will decrease. In the past 10 years, the national pig hog inventory in February fell by an average of 1.7%. Due to the increase in slaughtering in December last year and January this year, and the slaughter of fattening pigs in some farms after the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia, the slaughtering of slaughtering pigs declined, and the national pig slaughtering in February increased by 2.8% month-on-month.

"This round of production capacity decline has generally led to a deep decline in large pig breeding provinces in the south, which has a major impact on the recovery of national pig production. In February, Sichuan, Guangxi, Jiangsu, Hunan, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Yunnan and other major southern provinces, such as the southern provinces, accelerated production capacity recovery. "The growth rate of fertile sow stocks is higher than that of the whole country, which is more favorable for the overall recovery of pig production capacity." Yang Zhenhai said.

The epidemic has not fundamentally changed the recovery of pig production

"The new crown pneumonia epidemic has caused a certain impact on pig production, but it has not fundamentally changed the recovery of pig production." Yang Zhenhai said.

According to the dispatch, the epidemic situation mainly affected some feed, veterinary drugs, and slaughtering companies that failed to resume production as planned, animal breeding prevention, breeding pigs, and piglets supplementation in some farms were hindered, and the resumption of work for newly-built and expanded pig farms was delayed. In response to this, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, in conjunction with the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Public Security, issued three documents to maintain normal production order, opened up feed and piglet transportation, and coordinated the joint prevention and control mechanism of the State Council to incorporate key enterprises such as feed, breeding, slaughter and processing into epidemic prevention and control. A list of key guarantee companies was set up. A hotline was set up to accept and resolve the problems reported by farmers. Coordinating the relevant departments to put policy corn in Shandong, Henan and other large breeding provinces, and strive to minimize the impact of the epidemic.

Yang Zhenhai said that in the next step, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs will take more pragmatic and efficient measures with relevant departments to urge all provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) to break down the promised tasks of stabilizing production and supply of pigs to counties and cities, implement supporting policies and measures, and accelerate the implementation of mortgage loans. Pilot full-coverage policies, discounted loans for farms with a scale of over 500 heads per year, comprehensively promoted the start of new reconstruction and expansion projects and resumed work, continued to focus on leading enterprises to take 10,000 households of pig industry poverty alleviation projects to expand production capacity, and effectively strengthened the supervision of breeding pigs and piglets. Good prevention and control of African swine fever, ensure the completion of the target task of returning pig production capacity to a level close to normal in the end of this year. At the same time, continue to focus on the production of poultry, beef and mutton, and increase the supply of meat products through multiple channels.
