The government finally listened to the players in the fight against discrimination and decided to reveal the names of the companies at fault .
To make these accusations, he based himself on a vast “ testing ” campaign led by researchers from the University of Paris-Est-Créteil . The specialists concluded that, with an identical profile, candidates with a North African name were 20 to 30% less likely than candidates with a French-French name to find a job.
" Name and shame "
By revealing companies accused of racial discrimination in hiring, the government hopes to force them to change their practices, if only out of interest, to preserve their image. This is the principle of " name and shame ", which is "naming and shaming".
The method apparently did not work for the Accor hotel chain. The company had already been denounced two years ago, by the former French Minister of Labor, Myriam El Khomri.
In a joint press release, six of the seven accused companies - Renault did not sign it - express their own " indignation ". They question the " methodology " used by economists at Paris-Est University who conducted the study.
