The Swedish technology manufacturer Ericsson has announced its decision not to attend the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020, which takes place from February 24 to 27 in Barcelona, as a precaution against the spread of the coronavirus, as it considers that it cannot guarantee The safety of employees and visitors.

In this way, the company becomes the second largest international company that decides to withdraw from the MWC of 2020, after the Korean manufacturer LG Electronics announced last Tuesday that it will not go to this year's edition as a preventive measure against the outbreak of coronavirus

In a statement, Ericsson explains that, following the outbreak and the continued spread of the coronavirus, it has closely followed its development and adhered to the recommendations of the relevant national authorities and international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO).

In this context, the Swedish company notes that it has already taken a series of precautionary measures to guarantee the health and safety of employees and minimize the impact that the coronavirus could have on its operations.

"After an extensive internal risk assessment, Ericsson has decided to take more precautionary measures by withdrawing from MWC Barcelona 2020, the largest event in the telecommunications industry," he announces.

In this regard, he states that he appreciates that the GSMA, the event's organizing body, has done "everything possible" to control the risk. However, he adds that, as one of the largest exhibitors, he has thousands of visitors at his stand every day and even, although the risk is low, "he cannot guarantee the health and safety of his employees and visitors."

"The health and safety of our employees, customers and other stakeholders are our top priority. This is not a decision we have made lightly. We were eager to show our latest innovations at the MWC in Barcelona. It is very unfortunate, but We firmly believe that the most responsible commercial decision is to withdraw our participation from this year's event, "said Ericsson's president and CEO, Börje Ekholm.

Once this decision is made, the Swedish manufacturer points out that, to showcase its product portfolio and its latest innovations, it will bring the demonstrations and content that it had created for MWC Barcelona to customers in its national markets with local events called 'Ericsson Unboxed '.
