Abu Dhabi Airports has announced the opening of the first interactive corridor in the Middle East at Abu Dhabi International Airport, which is generating power through passenger steps, at the airport, which receives about 2 million passengers a month.

The move comes in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and the UK-based clean technology company, Bevagen, to develop a 16-square-meter interactive corridor linking two main buildings at the airport, which embraces state-of-the-art technology in the capital. Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Airports said that the interactive corridor will contribute to the collection of the steps of about 8000 passengers a day, converted into electric power to operate the display screens, and provide the energy needed to light the corridor by transferring the steps between the terminals 1 and 3 at the airport to electric power. The displays will include information on the number of steps and the current amount of energy, as well as an interactive children's game showing planes rising and falling according to the amount of energy being generated.

Ahmed Al Shamsi, Acting Chief Operating Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: "Our collaboration with Masdar and Beijing has resulted in the development of an advanced interactive corridor to showcase the technologies and resources of smart cities in the future. Sustainable practices through the adoption of a new source of clean and renewable energy, as well as raising awareness and education of travelers and residents on various sources of energy and solutions provided by off-grid technologies.

"Our environmental performance and sustainable initiatives demonstrate Abu Dhabi's continued commitment to delivering innovative solutions to the global aviation industry," said Al Shamsi.

The surface of the corridor is made up of a series of interlocking triangles, and when travelers pass on this patented system, they generate continuous energy according to the number of their steps. This power is used to operate 5-meter LED lighting and updates the data shown on the displays.

"Airports are receiving millions of passengers every day, making them one of the most important destinations for interactive power generation and data generation," said Lawrence Kimball Cook, founder and CEO of Peugeen. "The development of our first interactive terminal in the Middle East is a new milestone for our company. We seek to strengthen our presence in this vital region. "
