The municipality of Madrid announced Tuesday (December 4th) that it refused to grant an authorization to the three companies of electric self-service scooters.

Madrid City Hall announced on Tuesday that it has refused to grant a license to operate the three companies offering electric scooters self-service and must withdraw them within 72 hours.

The Spanish capital accuses Lime, Wind and VOI, who offer these scooters bookable via mobile applications and have spread in recent months in Madrid, not enough to inform their users of the restrictions on their movement.

The circulation of electric scooters is allowed in Madrid in the streets limited to 30 km / hour, which represent 80% of those of the city, and on bike paths but prohibited on sidewalks or in pedestrian streets.

Scooters totally forbidden in Barcelona

The three companies concerned may nevertheless file "at any time" a new application, said the mayor, adding that a total of 18 companies are "interested" to offer the service.

The arrival of self-service electric scooters has forced Spanish cities to adapt their regulations or to adopt prohibition measures.

Unlike Madrid, the model of the scooter in "self-service" is totally forbidden in Barcelona, overwhelmed by mass tourism, anyone paying to use an electric scooter to be accompanied by a guide.
