There was tension today on Ulleungdo, where an air raid warning was issued yesterday (2nd) as North Korea fired another missile toward the East Sea.

Let's connect our reporters who are going to Ulleungdo.

Reporter Hong Seung-yeon, I think the residents there are very anxious.

<Reporter>

Yes, I arrived at Ulleungdo at around 1:20 pm after taking a 4 hour boat ride from Pohang Ferry Terminal at 9:20 am today.

Today, as usual, passenger ships carrying tourists came and went, and the residents seemed to have returned to their daily lives.

However, this is the first time that air strikes and alerts have been issued on Ulleungdo, and as North Korea's missile provocations continued on the second day, residents and tourists are somewhat uneasy.

By the way, there was a story like that, even if you tried to evacuate right after the air raid warning was issued yesterday, the place was not suitable.

<Reporter>

Yes, yes.

When reporters came to Ulleungdo and listened to the stories of the residents, they agreed that even after receiving the evacuation instructions, they did not know where to evacuate.

Let's hear from the residents.

[Yoon Si-young / Ulleungdo Jeo-dong resident: (from the broadcast) Evacuate to the shelter.

It came out like this

But when I said, 'There is no shelter, where to go, where to go'...

.]

[Ulleungdo residents: There is no shelter.

When it aired, they told us to evacuate to places like elementary schools, middle schools, and gyms, but if you want to evacuate to such places, it is better to stay at home.]

In fact, I looked around the 8 evacuation facilities designated by the Ulleung-gun Office, and found that they are virtually neglected like warehouses or places where the doors are locked and cannot be used. This was mostly.

The number of evacuation facilities is also insufficient.

Currently, 8 designated evacuation facilities can accommodate about 3,170 people, which is only a third of the total population of Ulleung-gun.

However, evacuation facilities such as public parking lots, Ulleung-gun Office, and Hanmaeum Hall are concentrated in Ulleung-eup, and the rest of Seomyeon and Buk-myeon do not meet the standards even if there are no underground facilities.

Ulleung-gun said that it would require a significant budget to create an underground evacuation space, and that it would designate nine additional underground tunnels as evacuation sites.
