The Korean Society of Clinical Psychology has provided specific guidelines to help those who suffer from psychologically unstable conditions after directly or indirectly experiencing the Itaewon disaster.

“After experiencing a traumatic event, people’s reactions to trauma may vary, including physical changes such as insomnia, body tremors, fatigue, loss of appetite, and indigestion, and psychological changes such as anxiety, fear, irritability, and nightmares.” He explained, "The role of the community is very important in recovering from trauma."

Suffering from an unusual event is a normal and natural reaction that anyone can experience.

Acknowledge that the current situation is a difficult time in your life, and comfort and encourage yourself.

Distraction When you have negative thoughts, try an activity that distracts you.

People Around You It's important to ask and talk to people around you about your pain.


Conversely, being alone or beating yourself up is something to avoid.



The society emphasized, "Being alone can exacerbate the stress response. Blaming yourself for the cause of the event creates a deep sense of depression. Remember that the event is not your fault."



He continued, "Relying on alcohol or cigarettes or focusing on articles and information related to accidents does not help. Try to understand,” he added.



In particular, he urged the survivors' families and those around them to listen to the survivors and help them receive psychological support.
