A middle school student complained of stomach pain after drinking canned beverages from a vending machine installed in a Busan metro station.

It turned out that this drink had an expiration date of more than 7 years.

According to Dongnae-gu, Busan, middle school student A (16) drank canned drinks from a vending machine installed in Dongnae Station on Busan Metro Line 1 on the 8th.

Group A, who felt the taste of the canned drink was strange, checked the expiration date on the bottom of the canned drink, and checked the phrase 'until October 2014' on the bottom of the canned drink.

Group A, who drank the drink without knowing that the expiration date had passed for 7 years, showed symptoms of an upset stomach and eventually went to the hospital for treatment.

Upon learning of this fact, the parents of group A immediately filed a complaint with the department in charge of Dongnae-gu.

Dongnae-gu confirmed that the drink in question was stored in the vending machine based on the testimony of Group A, the time period during which the drink was purchased and drank, the time period where Group A was captured on CCTV in the station, and the receipt of the card where the drink was purchased.

A Dongnae-gu official said, "For some reason, it seems that the displayed canned drinks were mixed with the drinks sold."

He added, "There is a need to investigate all other vending machines in the district to prevent further damage.

On the other hand, in the case of 'unmanned coffee vending machines', which are classified as 'vending machine industry', beverages are made directly inside the vending machine, and the local government conducts a hygiene check once a year.

However, in the case of 'canned beverage vending machines' that sell finished beverages, they are classified as 'general free business' and can be operated by registering a business with the local tax office without reporting business to the local government and are not subject to food hygiene inspection or supervision by the local government.
