A man caught smoking in an airplane toilet appealed to the court for leniency, claiming that he would soon become a father, but was eventually sentenced to a fine.

According to the legal community today (12th), the 25th single criminal (Judge Kwon Young-hye) of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced a man in his 30s, who is accused of violating the Aviation Security Act, to a fine of 3 million won on the 8th.

According to the court, Mr. A smoked a cigarette-type cigarette in the bathroom of an international flight bound for Incheon from Los Angeles, USA on August 16, last year at around 10:15 am Korean time.

At that time, the flight attendant immediately discovered smoking and handed over Mr. A to the police after landing.

Previously, the prosecution requested a fine of 2 million won for A in summary indictment in October of last year.

After a written hearing, the court increased the sentence and issued a summary order of 3 million won in fine.

However, A was dissatisfied with this and requested a formal trial.

He appeared before the trial without a lawyer last month and appealed, saying, "The first child will be born next week."

However, the court sentenced the existing fine of 3 million won, saying, "There is no clear sentencing factor to consider newly, so we will maintain the fine amount of the summary order."
