``Everywhere in Gaza has been destroyed. People have forgotten that there are many civilians there,''

a man evacuated to the northern Gaza Strip told NHK in an interview to learn about the situation there.

The 7th of this month marks six months since the conflict between the Israeli army and the Islamic organization Hamas began in October last year. Food shortages are becoming increasingly serious in the north. I asked about the current situation on the ground.

destroyed home

A building destroyed by bombing. This is a man's home in the northern Gaza Strip.

The belongings left in the house had been looted. This photo was taken by a man a month ago.

The car he was riding in was also burnt out.

Man evacuated in northern Gaza Strip:

``When the war started, I lost everything. When I go out into the streets outside, things are destroyed everywhere. It's clear that I can't live here.''

Six months of evacuation, the sound of an explosion...

For the past six months, the man's family had taken refuge with relatives in a building in the northern Gaza Strip that had survived the collapse. However, the place they evacuated to was also hit by an airstrike, and more than 10 people, including the man's relatives, died.

For the past six months, they have been forced to live only 200 to 300 meters from the building they evacuated to in order to avoid fighting.

During the interview, I heard an explosion outside a short distance away.

The man looked around and told us, ``I just heard an explosion.''

When I asked him if the current situation was dangerous, he said, "Don't worry. Nowhere is safe. The problem now is that we have become accustomed to this situation." did.

``I lost more than 20 kilograms'' of food in the north

During the interview, I saw an airplane flying directly overhead. According to the man, it was a plane dropping relief supplies from the sky.

However, even with such assistance, they are still unable to obtain sufficient food.

Man evacuated in northern Gaza Strip:

``We don't have enough food. I lost more than 20 kilograms since the war started. But we are alive. We are surviving somehow.''

Food shortages are becoming increasingly serious in the northern Gaza Strip.

According to OCHA (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs), 30% of humanitarian aid operations to the northern Gaza Strip have been rejected by Israeli authorities since March 1, and famine is expected to continue in the northern Gaza Strip throughout May this year. It's moisturizing

“I don’t feel like a human being.”

Regarding his current life in the Gaza Strip, the man said, ``Right now, I'm thinking about how I'm going to get food, how I'm going to survive until the next day without knowing what will happen the next day.Maybe it's my turn next.'' "We live like we don't have any. We don't have privacy, we don't have food, we don't have entertainment, we don't feel like we're human."

Regarding the death of a relative in a bombing six months ago, he said, ``Of course I'm sad, but I haven't been able to feel the pain that I should have felt. We're in the middle of a crisis right now, so when the crisis ends... I think this is when they realize the magnitude of what they have lost."

for the family…

The man has a 10 month old baby. In the evacuation area, the water supply system has been destroyed and clean water is not available. She was unable to receive vaccinations for her child, and she repeatedly fell ill with abdominal pain and fever.

Man's Wife

: ``I boil water to make it a little cleaner and easier for my daughter to drink, but there are people who don't even have the tools to do this.Right now, I'm feeling anxious and scared.'' I have nothing but emotions. I want to live without fear of losing my loved ones or my home."

During the interview, the baby who was sleeping woke up. The baby is rubbing his eyes and smiling in his mother's arms.

The man said, ``Children have no idea what's going on. They just clap their hands and smile at everyone. They feel really innocent and innocent.''

“I lost everything in the last six months”

There are some things men wish for for their children and families.

When the fighting began six months ago, the man was hoping that the fighting would end as soon as possible and that he could rebuild his life in the Gaza Strip. But now, six months later, he says he wants to leave the Gaza Strip. Because we believe that there is no bright future for children in the Gaza Strip.

Man evacuated in northern Gaza Strip:

``Gaza is my homeland. I never once thought of leaving Gaza. However, in the last six months, I have lost everything I have accumulated. I don't want him to live the life he is living now. I hope he has a much better future."

"I want to see the report that the war has ended."

At the end of the interview, the man left us with the following words:

"I want you to know that there are civilians in Gaza and that they are people who want to live in peace. They don't care about anything else. The war is officially over. I just want to see the coverage. That's all I want to see right now."
